The 2019 LABORIE STEEL PAN AND BRASILIAN PERCUSSION WORKSHOP
Jan. 4 - 13 Saint Lucia, West Indies

Join us for the third annual workshop of steel pan and Brasilian percussion music in Laborie, Saint Lucia. This 10-day experience will be packed with instruction; steel band rehearsals, master classes covering the history of steel band music, arranging, and improvising with world-renowned pan player/composer Andy Narell, and Brasilian drumming with Jason Koontz, director of percussion at Eastern Kentucky University.

The workshops are held in the small and beautiful village of Laborie (www.ilovelaborie.com), a culturally vibrant community, where you will be able to enjoy the local cuisine, the beaches, historic sites, hikes, magical sunsets and the company of friendly locals. 

Written music and mp3’s will be sent to participants before the workshop to prepare, and the workshop will culminate with a free collaborative concert with members of the Laborie Steel Pan for the Laborie community,  

There are only 26 participant spots available, so apply by Oct. 1st, 2018 to reserve yours! A $250US deposit via paypal is due by Oct. 31st to secure your reservation and housing.

2019 workshop pricing:

($1,100 USD) – workshop program with economy housing for 11 nights (single-room accommodation in one or two-bedroom houses with self-contained kitchens, bathrooms and free WiFi). *participants who wish to arrange their own accommodation are charged USD 600 to cover tuition, group meals, excursions and airport transfers. The Laborie Development Foundation can suggest options for accommodation.

Workshop package includes: (3) 2-hour master-classes, (8) 2.5- hour steel band rehearsals, (4) 2-hour Brasilian drumming rehearsals, Jam session ("Live at Mama Rose!") with Andy Narell, Laborie concert performance, meals at local restaurants, Beach BBQ picnic, excursions: swim/hike, visit to the famous sulphur hot springs, visit to Balenbouche estate, Laborie village tour, excursion transportation and entrance fees, housing (11 nights), and Laborie Steel Pan instrument use (steel pans and Brasilian drums). 

*Tuition covers housing from Jan 3th - Jan. 13th. If workshop participants want to extend their stay we can make arrangements for $50 USD per night.


*Round-trip airfare to either airport in Saint Lucia (SLU) George F.L. Charles airport in Castries, or (UVF) Hewanorra International airport in Vieux-Fort., and meals not listed in the workshop inclusions will be the responsibility of the individual participants. 

*Airport transfer from (UVF) is included - Round trip transfers from/to (SLU) will cost an extra $150 US due to airport distance from Laborie. In either case, we will arrange to have you picked up and taken to the airport for departure.

*Individuals wishing to sign up to participate in the workshop after Oct. 31st may incur an increase in pricing due to housing availability.
